Who is behind Say Yes Australia

We're a broad and historic partnership project of leading civil society organisations representing youth, workers, the environment and the community.

The groups have come together under the "Say Yes" banner just for this critical year of action.

Between us we represent over 3 million Australians.

Say Yes Australia is a non-partisan initiative. It is a fundamental condition of us working together that we do not support any activity that is directed towards the promotion of political causes or political parties.

What do we stand for?

We're saying 'Yes' to Australia implementing a broad objectives of measures, including a price on carbon pollution in 2011.

We want our politicians to say YES to legislation and policies which prices pollution and reduces our economy’s dependence on carbon pollution.

This is an unprecedented coalition of groups who have their own more detailed policy priorities but agree on broad objectives of a price on carbon pollution that we want from our elected representatives in Parliament including

1.    An effective price on pollution that starts reducing Australia’s carbon pollution within 2 years.

2.    Growing Clean Industries and Jobs – protecting and growing jobs in energy efficiency, renewable and cleaner energy, carbon farming and existing industries

3.    Ensuring low income households are not adversely affected

4.    Assisting workers and communities affected by the structural change to access all the opportunities in a low pollution economy

5.    Helping the global effort to tackle climate change

This year, our politicians need to stop saying no or maybe, they need to say YES.

We know that if Australians work together to cut pollution and build clean energy, we'll make a success of it.

We believe in doing what's best for all Australians, and standing up to big polluting companies that are scaremongering and putting self-interest ahead of the national interest.

We're concerned the benefits of putting a price on pollution haven't been communicated clearly – that's why we've launched this campaign!

So who exactly are we?

We want everyone who thinks, feels or believes in 'Yes' to get involved in the campaign.

But building a campaign takes lots of time and effort. So if you want to know which organisations came together to start Say Yes Australia, here they are:

  • Australian Conservation Foundation
  • Australian Council of Trade Unions
